Appleflats

In 1991, Ruth Abernethy and her husband mark Smyth, along with her sister Ellen Abernethy and Kennith Hadley, purchased a small landlocked property outside of Wellesley Ontario. They started hands on construction on a joint family home in 1992. Ruth and Mark welcomed their first son, Glen Smyth, into the family during construction of 1992.

Upon completion of the home that October, the two families planted a crabapples tree to celebrate. There is debate among the family if it was supposed to be a regular apple, or crabapple. One thing is for sure, it was not designed to be a special heritage crabapple tree.
